Customizing the Library

Step 1

Download and install the Menu Package into your library folder.   The library package is a set of files that define how the books in your library are displayed on the main library page of YanCEyWare Reader.  The first time you ran YanCEyWare Reader, it created the directory for these files.

a. Download one of the library packages below by clicking on the link or picture for the menu style you wish to use. This file is a zip file. When prompted to Open the file or Save the file to your computer, select Save.   If your browser tries to open the folder instead of downloading it, right-click and select "Save As...".  Remember the name and location where you save this file.

Classic Menu

The Classic Menu has no bells and whistled.  It just lists the books in your library in a flat list that includes several basic categories.

Collapsing Menu

The Collapsing Menu takes advantage of new features in YWR 2.06 and later to place e-books into expanding and collapsing categories. The menu may run slowly on Pocket PC 2002 and 2003 devices when fully expanded.

Multi-Menu

NOTE:  This menu may not work on Pocket PC 2000 or Pocket PC 2002 Devices as it uses features that aren't available on those devices, and is better suited for use on WinMobile 2003 devices.

This menu features a collapsible section which lists all the books in your library and a flat quick access section that lists just the Standard Works, hymns, and 2004 curriculum.  Switch between the collapsible section and quick menu section by tapping the library graphic at the top of the menu.

b. Using Windows Explorer on your desk top PC, locate the zip file that you downloaded in step a.  The contents of this zip file will need to be extracted.  The procedure for doing this will vary depending on what version of Windows you are running and what Zip programs you may have installed on your desktop PC.  However, double-clicking the zip file will typically run the default application for extracting zip files on your computer.  If you are running Windows XP the compressed zip file may appear as a zip folder (standard folder icon with a zipper).  In this case, double-clicking will open the zip folder.  You should see a single folder named "Menu" inside the zip folder as well as 2 files named Style.html and NavStyle.html.  Extract the contents of the zip file to another location on your PC.  If done correctly, you should have 2 files name Style.html and NavStyle.html and a single folder named "Menu" that contains a number of html files and other files.  If you end up with a bunch of files, but no Menu folder,  ensure that your unzip program is set to maintain directory structure and try again.

c. We now need to copy the Menu folder and it's contents into the appropriate location in your Library folder.  Start by placing your Pocket PC in it's cradle.  This should automatically start Microsoft ActiveSync.  When ActiveSync starts, select the Explore button from the toolbar.

d. This should open the Mobile Device window.  From this window, double-click the My Pocket PC icon to get to the root directory of your Pocket PC device (note the following steps may differ if you created your library folder in a different location than in the example.

e. From the root directory browse to the location of your library folder.  In this example, we are using "\My Device\SD Card\Library" as our library folder.  If you created your library folder somewhere else, browse to that folder.  Now double-click the YanCEyWare subfolder.

f. You should see a list of files and folders similar to the following image.  Copy the contents of the menu folder you extracted in step b into the menu folder on your Pocket PC by dragging and dropping that folder into the white area of  the active sync window. Do not drag the folder on top of the Menu or splash folders.  If prompted to overwrite files, select yes.  Double-click on the menu file to check it's contents.  Also copy the NavStyle.html and Style.html files into the YanCEyWare folder (These 2 files aren't pictured in the screenshot,  but should appear in the same location as library.html in the screenshot).

g. You're Menu folder should now contain a number of files similar to the image below.  If the Menu folder just contains another Menu subfolder, you need to copy the files in that subfolder back into the  menu folder so that it looks similar to the picture below (note the file names may differ from those in the picture).

.

h. Now that you've finished copying the menu files, run YanCEyWare Reader from your Pocket PC.  You will need to select "Refresh Library" from the tools menu before the changes will take effect.  After you have refreshed the library, your library page should look similar to one of the screenshots from step 1a

You have successfully installed a custom library configuration!

If you wish to change the ordering of the books in the library page, you can do this by editing a file called order.txt that can be found in the Menu folder from step 1g.  Just find the book name for the book you wish to move and move that entry to another location in the order.txt file.  You need to select refresh library from the tools menu for your changes to take effect.

If you wish to add new books to your library, you will need to select refresh library from the tools menu before they will show up on your library page.  You can specify the location in the library where your newly added files will appear by adding an entry for them in the order.txt file in the desired location.  As before, you need to select refresh library from the tools menu for your changes to take effect.

You can change a library configuration do a different configuration by repeating the steps on this page for the new configuration
