Installing YanCEyWare Reader
Step 1
Create a folder on your Pocket PC
to be used as a library folder for YanCEyWare Reader. This
folder may be created anywhere on your Pocket PC, or on a storage
card. However, you will need approximately 16MB of free storage space where
this folder is located in order to hold all of the Standard Works and
LDS curriculum for any given year. As such, it is strongly
recommended that your library folder be located on a storage card.
Following is a step-by-step example of how to create a library
folder. |
|
|
a. Open the programs folder
by selecting Programs from the Start Menu. |
b. Select File Explorer
from the Programs folder. |
 |
 |
|
c. Select the folder where
you would like to create your library folder. In this
example, the folder will be created on my Secure Digital storage
card. That storage card shows up in the folder list as
SD Card. Note that your storage card may had a
different folder name depending on your device. |
d. After Selecting SD
Card (or whatever folder you chose), File Explorer will
display the contents of that folder. The contents on your
device may differ from the picture below. Select Edit or
Tap-Hold anywhere on the white area of the screen and the menu
pictured below will appear. Select New Folder from
the menu. |
 |
 |
|
e. A new folder will be
created with a default name of New Folder. The
folder name will be selected and can be modified in this state. |
f. Type in the name of your
new folder from the keyboard (or using your preferred input
method). The folder can have any name. In this
example, we'll call the folder "Library". |
 |
 |
|
g. Now you've created a new
folder to hold the e-books for your YanCEyWare Folder. The
full path to this folder is "\My Device\SD Card\Library".
Remember the location of this folder. The YanCEyWare
Reader configuration files and e-books will be copied into this
folder in the subsequent steps |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 2
Download and install YanCEyWare
Reader. Download and install the latest version of
the YanCEyWare Reader Desktop Installer.
|
|
|
|
|
a. Download the
YanCEyWare Reader Desktop
Installer for you Device. When
prompted to Open the file or Save the file to your computer,
select Save. Remember the location where you save this
file. |
|
b.
Place your Pocket PC in it's cradle. You're Pocket PC must
be in it's cradle before the installation process can complete. |
|
c. Using Windows Explorer
on your desk top PC, locate the YanCEyWare Reader Desktop
Installer that you just downloaded in step a. Double-click
the Installer to begin the installation process. |
|
d. Follow the on-screen
instructions. When complete, YanCEyWare Reader should be
installed on your Pocket PC. You'll find YanCEyWare Reader
in the Programs folder on your Pocket PC. Tap the
YanCEyWare Reader icon to run the program.

|
|
e. The First time you run
YanCEyWare Reader, you are prompted to select your Library
folder. Browse to the Library folder selected in Step 1,
select that folder, and tap OK. NOTE: Be sure you
select the Library folder and not the YanCEyWare
subfolder. If you inadvertently select the wrong folder,
don't panic. You can always change the library folder by tapping
on the Tools icon at the top of the main YanCEyWare Reader
screen and selecting "Configure->Select Library..." from the
menu.

|
|
f. The first time you run
YanCEyWare Reader, your library list will be empty. Now
it's time to download and add some e-books!

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Step 3
Download and install the e-books
into the Library folder created in Step 1. The
e-books you download from the
YanCEyWare E-books section are compressed zip files. Each
e-book must be extracted from a the zip file before it is copied to
the library folder. The unzipped e-book files will have a
".ybk" extension, such as "BoM.ybk". Below is an example for a
single e-book. This same procedure should be followed for each
book you download |
|
|
|
|
a. Download the e-book by
clicking on the link for the e-book in the
e-books section. For
this example we will download the Book of Mormon (BoM.zip).
When prompted to Open the file or Save the file to your
computer, select Save. Remember the location where you
save this file. |
|
b.
Using Windows Explorer on your desk top PC, locate the BoM.zip
file that you downloaded in step a. Extract the
contents the BoM.ybk file from the zip file. |
|
c. We now need to copy the
BoM.ybk file to our Library folder. Start by placing your
Pocket PC in it's cradle. This should automatically start
Microsoft ActiveSync. When ActiveSync starts, select the
Explore button from the toolbar.

|
|
d. This should open the
Mobile Device window. From this window, double-click the
My Pocket PC icon to get to the root directory of your Pocket PC
device (note the following steps may differ if you created your
library folder in a different location than in the example.

|
|
e. From the root directory
browse to the "\My Device\SD Card\Library" folder. This is
the folder created in Step 1 above. The folder should
contain just the YanCEyWare subfolder at this point. If
not, verify the previous steps. The next step will be to
drag-and-drop the BoM.ybk file into the Library folder.
NOTE: Be sure to copy the ybk files into the "Library" directory
and NOT the YanCEyWare directory.

|
|
f. When complete, the
folder should look like this. Note that the ybk file is at
the same level as the YanCEyWare subfolder, not inside it.
Also note that the book has a ybk extension, not a zip
extension.

|
|
g. Repeat this step for all
of the e-books you would like to install. Note that
all the e-book files should be copied to the same directory, as
shown in the screenshot below. Do not copy e-book files
into the YanCEyWare subdirectory pictured in the screen shots.
This folder is used to hold splash images, custom menu files,
and other YanCEyWare Reader support files.
 |
|
h. Now that you have
installed the e-book into your Library folder, run YanCEyWare
Reader again on your Pocket PC. When YanCEyWare Reader
starts up, the library list will still be empty as pictured in
step 2f. To add the e-books you just copied to your
library screen, you must refresh your library. Tap on the
icon and select "Refresh Library" from the menu. You
should see a list of e-books similar to the image below.
If not, double check that you have copied the files into the
correct folder. If you are certain the files are in the
correct folder, double check that this is the same folder you
selected in step 2e. If necessary, you can change the selected
library folder by selecting "Configure->Select Library..." from
the tools menu.
